Standards & Guidance

Effective April 1, 2025, the NSDTA is implementaing a Code of Ethics and a General Standard of Practice for the practice of dental technology in Nova Scotia.

These documents were developed to create or replace elements of regulation that are necessary or will otherwise be repealed in existing legislation upon migration to the RHPA (which is anticipated to happen on May 1st, 2025). These documents will continue after amalgamation under the successor organization, the NS Regulator of Dental Hygiene, Dental Technology, and Denturism.

On December 6, 2025, all registrants of the College of Dental Hygienists of Nova Scotia (CDHNS), Denturist Licensing Board of Nova Scotia (DLBNS), and Nova Scotia Dental Technicians Association (NSDTA) were sent a draft joint Standard of Practice Regarding Sexual Misconduct and Sexual Abuse for review and feedback (the “Standard”), and were advised that the implementation of this Standard will commence on January 8, 2025.

The Standard has now been finalized, following the conclusion of the consultation period and a legal review of all of the feedback received. We would like to thank those who took the time to read and comment on the Standard.

While the CDHNS, DLBNS, and NSDTA continue to be governed by their respective Acts until migration to the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) is complete, the RHPA’sGeneral Regulations require all health regulators (including those not yet migrated to the RHPA) to adopt the mandatory standard of practice for sexual misconduct and sexual abuse, with an effective date of January 8, 2025.

The NSDTA remains committed to minimizing the spread of COVID-19 within Nova Scotia. The following additional COVID-19 requirement has been updated, as of July 28, 2024. It remains in alignment with NSH requirements for healthcare workers who test positive for COVID-19.
